North Middlesex Foundation Trust

The Trust are asking local people what they think about the Trust's plans for the future.

The Secretary of State for Health has agreed that the Trust can make an application to become a Foundation Trust. If the application is successful, this could be a reality from mid July 2008.

Chief Executive, Clare Panniker, said: "Foundation Trust status will give us greater freedom and we will be able to decide how best to spend our money to meet the needs of our patients and local community.

"Our vision for the future is to become one of London's major acute hospitals and be the hospital of choice for the local community, providing first class patient care in modern facilities. We believe that becoming an NHS Foundation Trust will help us to achieve this."

Foundation Trusts are public benefit corporations, which are owned by their members. Anyone who lives in Enfield and Haringey is eligible to sign up to become a member of North Middlesex.  Membership is free and gives people the opportunity to be more involved in the running of the hospital and vote and stand for election to the Board of Governors.

To kick start the membership campaign the Trust asked former local resident and national celebrity Bruce Forsyth for his support.

Mr Forsyth said: "North Middlesex University Hospital was my local hospital when I was growing up in Edmonton. I had my left kidney removed at the North Mid when I was in my early 20s and I do try and visit it as often as I can."

There are a series of public events and special interest events to give residents the chance to come and find out more about what it means to become a Foundation Trust and the future plans for the North Middlesex University Hospital. These events will have a community and health focus.

The times, dates and venues of the meetings set up so far in Enfield are as follows:

Friday, November 2, from 10am to 2pm, Edmonton Leisure Centre, 2 The Broadway, Edmonton

Wednesday, November 28, from 11am to 1pm, Southbury Leisure Centre, 192 Southbury Road, Enfield

Wednesday, December 5, from 6pm to 8pm, Enfield Civic Centre, Silver Street, Enfield.
